Taipei City, Taiwan, October 21, 2026 -- A mattress that feels cool when touched has answered only the first part of a hot sleeper’s buying question. In Taiwan, shoppers considering EMMA’s Diamond mattress can look at its graphene-containing comfort foam and pocket-spring construction, then assess how that combination fits their preferred cushioning and support. A cooling label alone cannot settle how comfortable the complete bed will feel later in the night.
The distinction is becoming more visible in the bedding industry. In its September 8, 2026 report, BedTimes described exhibitors at the Summer Las Vegas Market explaining cooling through airflow, phase-change materials, graphite and layered constructions. The coverage concerned product presentations and industry developments, rather than a controlled comparison of their performance. For consumers, the useful development is a more specific conversation about what a cooling feature actually does.
Two hot sleepers may need different answers
Consider two hypothetical shoppers. One dislikes the warm sensation when first getting into bed. The other is comfortable initially but feels hot after lying down for some time. Both might search for a cooling mattress, yet a brief touch demonstration addresses their concerns differently.
The first shopper may find information about the cover’s contact-cooling behavior useful. The second needs to look beyond that initial sensation and ask about measurements over time. Neither should have to abandon a preferred level of cushioning simply because a broad material category has been labeled hot or cool.
Before comparing brands, shoppers can identify when the discomfort occurs, which bedding they normally use and whether they want a spring-based or spring-free construction. This gives each shopper a specific comfort problem to discuss with the retailer.
Contact cooling and temperature over time answer different questions
BOKEN, the Japanese testing organization, explains that contact-cooling testing evaluates heat transfer at the moment a sensor touches a specimen. The q-max value is the peak heat flux at contact, expressed in W/cm². A larger result under the relevant conditions indicates a cooler sensation at contact; it is not a duration expressed in hours.
Test settings matter too. BOKEN’s explanation lists a 10°C sensor-to-specimen temperature difference for JIS L 1927 and 15°C for GB/T 35263. Numbers produced under those different settings should not become a simple higher-is-better shopping ranking. A buyer needs the method and conditions before making that comparison.
A temperature chart serves a different purpose. It may show how a measured location changes over a stated interval, but its usefulness depends on the setup. A cover sample, a foam layer and a finished mattress are different test objects. A short measurement at one surface cannot, on its own, answer a question about an entire night on a fully made bed.
The practical response is to match the result to the concern. Someone interested in the first touch can ask about a fabric test. Someone interested in later warmth can ask whether time-based measurements exist, what was heated and where the readings were taken. A retailer’s answer is more useful when it names the tested component and conditions instead of repeating a technology label.
Percentages need a shared measure and baseline
Two improvements expressed as percentages may concern entirely different things. One could describe airflow through a sample; another could describe a change in a temperature-related measurement. The larger percentage does not automatically describe the more comfortable mattress.
The comparison also needs a starting point. A result against an earlier foam formulation is different from a result against a finished competing mattress. Shoppers can ask which product or material supplied the baseline, whether the same method was used and whether the tested version matches the item on sale.
The same care applies to badges. A report about a material’s safety or durability answers the questions within its scope. It should not be treated as a cooling certificate unless that performance was actually evaluated. The report should identify both the tested item and the performance being assessed.
Who may consider EMMA Diamond
EMMA’s Taiwan Diamond mattress product page identifies Diamond Degree graphene foam, Airgocell, Visco and HRX layers, together with seven-zone AeroFlex pocket springs. The construction gives shoppers a specific foam-and-spring combination to consider when temperature-management features, cushioning and spring support all matter.
The layers identify the construction, while a cooling result needs its own test conditions. When asking about Diamond’s temperature-management design, shoppers can request the tested model, configuration and measurement period. Overseas EMMA reviews also need a model check before being applied to the Taiwan product.
For someone who prefers a spring core and is interested in graphene-containing foam, Diamond combines both in one mattress. During a tryout, the shopper can assess the overall cushioning and ease of changing position alongside the initial surface sensation. Because the design contains several foam layers, it would not suit a preference to avoid foam altogether.
The final decision happens on a made bed
The mattress used at home normally has a sheet and often a protector above it, with other bedding around the sleeper. A test of an uncovered surface describes that setup. At home, the sheet, protector and other bedding become part of the experience, alongside room temperature, humidity and individual perceptions of comfort.
A simple home record can keep the decision focused. Note the bedding in use, the room settings and whether warmth is noticeable immediately or later. When adjusting the setup, change one item at a time and retain the protection required by the product’s care instructions. This is a way to understand personal comfort, not a substitute for a laboratory comparison.
Before ordering, shoppers can bring the decision back to the discomfort they originally wanted to address: the first touch, warmth later in the night, or both. The chosen mattress should also suit their cushioning and support preferences. Matching the measurement to that need makes the cooling information more useful than a single number viewed in isolation.
