Hand of God DAO to buy Maradona's jersey at Sotheby's auction; individual contributions of 10m GBP expected

London, United Kingdom Apr 20, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - DAO Ex Machina (daoexmachina.com) is announcing the formation of the "Hand of God DAO" (handofgod.fund), a community of football fans who intend to buy Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" jersey being sold at auction by Sotheby's online through 5 May 2022.
The jersey was worn by Maradona during the June 1986 World Cup football match against England. In the match, Maradona scored two goals wearing this jersey. The first, using his hand, is now referred to as the "Hand of God" goal, and the second, the "Goal of the Century". Argentina went on to win the game, 2 -1, and then the Cup itself.
Sotheby's is auctioning the jersey online with the sale closing on 5 May. Estimates range from £4,000,000 to 6,000,000.
Said Dene Schonknect, co-founder of DAO Ex Machina: "We think it's important that this English football community be involved in the future of this piece of kit. With so much history & controversy behind the match in which Maradona wore this, we think the community should be allowed to vote on what happens to this iconic piece of sports memorabilia, and the best way to do that is through a DAO."
