Intermountain Health and West Valley City Unveil Plans for Major New Medical Campus

Intermountain Health shares plans for nine-story, 235,000 square-foot for medical campus

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT (PRUnderground) September 16th, 2026

Thanks to a major new medical campus planned by Intermountain Health, West Valley City and west Salt Lake County residents in Utah will soon have easier access to healthcare services.

Intermountain Health has acquired the nine-story, 235,000 square-foot Fairbourne Building at 3535 Market Street, which is located on 8.5 acres in the heart of downtown West Valley City, from Wasatch Group.

Leaders and caregivers from Intermountain Health joined with West Valley City Mayor Karen Lang and other city leaders on Tuesday to unveil plans for the new medical campus and how it will enhance the future of healthcare for residents in West Valley City and west Salt Lake County.

The Fairbourne Building, one of the largest building complexes in the city, will be converted into a major healthcare hub and medical campus bringing vital medical services to the city, a move that will significantly expand access to healthcare in one of Utah's fastest growing communities.

The new medical campus will reduce barriers to care for residents, improve patient convenience, and help ensure residents can more easily access vital healthcare services as the city continues to experience dramatic growth, they say.

"As communities across Utah's west side continue to grow, the need for convenient access to healthcare has never been greater. Many families balance work, school, caregiving responsibilities, transportation challenges, and busy schedules that can make traveling across the valley for care difficult," said Heather Wall, president of Intermountain Health LDS Hospital. "By expanding services closer to home, we aim to reduce barriers to care, improve patient convenience, and help ensure residents can access the services they need when they need them the most."

The Intermountain Health Fairbourne Campus, as the building will be named, will be a "one-stop" destination for a wide variety of medical services for area patients, including primary care, specialty care, and eventually, a freestanding emergency department.

"This investment reflects our commitment to meet people where they are and expand access to high-quality care in a growing community," said Eric Liston, Intermountain Health's Canyons Region President. "As the needs of West Valley City and west Salt Lake County continue to evolve, we're focused on bringing more services closer to home, ensuring individuals and families can get the care they need, when and where they need it most."

Located in the heart of West Valley City across the street from Valley Fair Mall and adjacent to a major TRAX hub and key transportation corridors, including 3500 South, I-215, and Bangerter Highway, the building's central location will make it easier for patients and families to reach care while reducing travel time and improving convenience for patients managing ongoing health needs.

"We are thrilled to welcome Intermountain Health to West Valley City's Fairbourne Station City Center district," said West Valley City Mayor Karen Lang. "This new medical facility is a wonderful addition to our community. It will provide our residents with convenient access to outstanding healthcare close to home, which is vital, because when people have access to high-quality care, they are healthier, families are stronger, and communities are more resilient."

For families, enhanced access to healthcare can mean greater opportunities to address health concerns before they become more serious.

Planned services for the medical new campus include advanced imaging, ambulatory care, laboratory services, infusion treatments, outpatient services, specialty physician clinics, diagnostic services, rehabilitation services, pharmacy services, endoscopy services, and a future freestanding emergency department affiliated with Intermountain LDS Hospital.

"West Valley City continues to experience tremendous growth, and we are committed to growing alongside the people and families who call this community home," said Ralph Jean-Marie, president of Intermountain Health's Utah Central Market. "Our focus remains on delivering exceptional care, improving access, and supporting the health and well-being of this community for generations to come."

The building, which was originally designed for healthcare use when it was built in 2012, includes clinic space, infusion space, and an ambulatory surgery center. It has three built-out floors with six additional floors available for future expansion of the medical campus.

The building's existing healthcare infrastructure, substantial size, and room for future expansion of the building provides flexibility to meet the community's growing healthcare needs for many years to come, say Intermountain leaders.

The Intermountain Health Medical Group will have a significant presence on the campus, including clinics for medical providers in medical oncology, orthopedics, neurology, cardiology, gastroenterology, and rheumatology services.

"Our vision is to create a convenient 'one-stop' healthcare hub where patients can access a broad range of services in a single visit located in the heart of West Valley City," said Trevor Cottam, vice president of Intermountain Health's Medical Group.

Construction on the interior of the building is underway with the city and Intermountain working closely together on the campus. Several clinics and services will open later this year. The freestanding emergency department is planned to open in late 2027.
